Why Aerate?

When I was younger I used to wonder why someone would poke holes all over their yard and leave clumps of dirt everywhere. What I didn't understand is that both the ground and the grass underneath becomes compacted and prevents water and nutrients from reaching the roots of the turf. Aerating is key to maintaining a healthy lawn. Without aerating that perfect turf that you currently have will eventually turn into a patchy mess. It's also great for invigorating a tired lawn.
