Mowing stronger than weed killer

Many people believe that weed & feed is a one trick pony to fix their yard. Weed & Feed definitely has its place and is very helpful to develop a nice lawn. But, mowing at the proper height and consistently is probably the single best thing you can do for your lawn. When you let it grow out of control and then choose to mow it very low it weakens the grass and creates areas where weeds can move in and take over. Consistent mowing at the appropriate height creates the "turf" that you are looking for and that layer of protection prevents invaders from the neighbors weedy lawn.
